Softball Recap: Buckeye Victorious

Buckeye's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They never let the Rocky River Pirates get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Bucks: when they faced off against the Pirates last Wednesday, they had to take a 4-2 loss.

The result came thanks to Lilly Young's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Faith Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Melillo, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Buckeye's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Rocky River, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Buckeye will take on rival Westlake at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Rocky River is set to challenge their familiar foe Valley Forge at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Pirates' favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Patriots have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
