Harlan came tearing into Monday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Elliott County Lions as they made off with a 12-1 win. While the Green Dragons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Jordyn Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Ella Lisenbee and Ella Farley did most of the damage at the plate: Lisenbee went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and six RBI, while Farley scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases Lisenbee has posted since back in April of 2024. Addison Jackson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Harlan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Harlan pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Elliott County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
