Basketball Recap: Edgewood Piles Up the Points Against Merritt Island

After only 25 points in their last contest, Edgewood made sure to put some points up on the board against Merritt Island on Thursday. The Edgewood Red Wolves took their game with ease, bagging a 55-23 win over the Merritt Island Mustangs. The Red Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 30 points or more this season.

Edgewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Da'Varriea Robertson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Janae Mcfall, who went 8 of 20 on her way to 19 points and five steals.

Edgewood was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Merritt Island's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexie Overdorf, who posted six points along with seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Underwood, who put up ten points and five steals.

Edgewood is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Merritt Island, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-10.

Edgewood will challenge Space Coast at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Merritt Island, they will host Cocoa Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
