Softball Preview: Wahkiakum Mules vs. Adna Pirates
Wahkiakum is 0-5 against Adna since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wahkiakum Mules will head out on the road to challenge the Adna Pirates at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Wahkiakum had to start their season on the road two weeks ago, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of Morton/White Pass by a score of 25-24. The defeat means Wahkiakum is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.
Meanwhile, everything went Adna's way against Winlock on Monday as Adna made off with a 20-1 victory. The win was just what Adna needed coming off of a 15-8 loss in their prior game.
Ava Simms was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned run or hits (and only one walk). Simms was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Avery Lafontaine was incredible, going 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and a triple. Gaby Guard was another key contributor, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Wahkiakum suffered a grim 21-2 defeat to Adna in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can Wahkiakum avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
