Softball Game Preview: Central Christian Comets vs. Lucas Cubs

For the second straight game, Central Christian will face off against Lucas. The Comets will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Cubs at 5:00 p.m. Central Christian has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Central Christian came up short against Lucas on Monday, falling 16-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Cubs: they've now lost four in a row.

For Lucas' part, Maddie Boyer was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Boyer has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Destiny Foss was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ruby Conn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lucas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Lucas' win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Central Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Lucas' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Lucas, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Central Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Cubs will need to find a way to close that gap.
