Baseball Recap: Daniel Wins Going Away Against Pickens

Daniel got themselves on the board against Pickens on Thursday, but Pickens never followed suit. They blew past the Blue Flame 10-0. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Blue Flame recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Matthew Smith looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Liam Purcell and Quint Cumbie did most of the damage at the plate: Purcell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Cumbie got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Cumbie a new career-high. Julian Baldwin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Daniel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.

Daniel's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.7 runs. As for Pickens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.
