Basketball Recap: Coral Park Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Coral Park can now relate to. They took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southridge Spartans. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Coral Park saw an underclassman step up: freshman Noah Lara went 10-for-13 on his way to 23 points and seven boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lara has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Lara, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Southridge had a senior duo take command as Deandre Hardy dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards and O'Cien Valdes went 7-for-16 to rack up 16 points. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Hardy. Mykel Underwood was another key player, putting up seven points.

Coral Park's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Southridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Coral Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Southridge, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 80-72 loss against Coral Springs on the 12th.
