Baseball Game Preview: Adams Cougars vs. Samuell Spartans

For the second straight game, Adams will face off against Samuell. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Adams has nine straight victories, Samuell has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Adams is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Samuell a 23-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Jay Ortiz and Diego Wong were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Ortiz tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wong struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Ortiz posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Ortiz scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Wong went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Adams is 8-1 when Ortiz posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justino Chavarria, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Adams: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Michael Ortiz was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Adams' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Samuell, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
