Baseball Recap: Muir Starts Season with Victory at Home

Muir gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) Panthers with a sharp 8-2 win. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Conrad Hunziker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, he also posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other pitching news, Miguel Castillo tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Back at the plate, Kahlil Rishwain and Eduardo Sosa did most of the damage at the plate: Rishwain scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Sosa scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Rishwain a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Luca Cano, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Coming up, Muir will welcome Duarte at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA), they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 12-4 loss against Burroughs on the 19th.
