Softball Recap: Ritchie County Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Ritchie County took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against St. Marys, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels' pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted since April 8, 2024.

Not much got past Rocklyn Marcum, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep St. Marys off the board. Marcum has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ritchie County's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ava Satterfield, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Ritchie County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for St. Marys, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Ritchie County will challenge rival Wahama at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, St. Marys is set to face off against their familiar foe Doddridge County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Devils 1.9, the Bulldogs 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
