Softball Recap: Murphysboro's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Murphysboro hadn't done well against Carbondale recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red Devils walked away with a 10-7 win over the Terriers. This was payback for the Red Devils, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Macey Alexander and Cadence Fox did most of the damage at the plate: Alexander went 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Fox got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs Fox has posted since back in April. Macie Cunningham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Murphysboro's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-19. As for Carbondale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Murphysboro has already played their next match (against Harrisburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Carbondale, they are taking a road trip to face off against Goreville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Terriers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blackcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
