Baseball Game Preview: Coventry Oakers vs. Lincoln Lions

The Coventry Oakers are taking a road trip to challenge the Lincoln Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Coventry, who comes in off a win.

Coventry is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Moses Brown, who was ranked 18th at the time (Coventry was ranked 21st). The Oakers were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Quakers on Monday. The Oakers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28th (when they won 9-0).

Meanwhile, Lincoln was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Cranston East. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered against the Thunderbolts since May 24, 2016.

Lincoln got a good showing from Brennan Robert, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Lincoln saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Marshall, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Isaac Cabral also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Coventry, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7.

Coventry beat Lincoln 3-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Oakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
