Football Recap: Newton-Conover Starts off Right with Win over Alexander Central + How To Watch

Newton-Conover had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Alexander Central Cougars as they made off with a 42-21 win.

Newton-Conover found their leader in sophomore Jeremiah Pope, who rushed for 172 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Pope showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 55 yards.

Newton-Conover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexander Central only rushed for 119 rushing yards.

Although Alexander Central took the loss, they still got scores from Jacob Hubbard, Jaheim Redmond, and Sawyer Chapman-Mays.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover will square off against Polk County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 881 yards in their previous games. As for Alexander Central, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
