Football Recap: Newton-Conover Starts off Right with Win over Alexander Central + How To Watch

Newton-Conover had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Alexander Central Cougars with a sharp 42-21 victory.

Jeremiah Pope was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 55 yards.

Pope was just one part of a punishing run game: Newton-Conover was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexander Central only rushed for 119 rushing yards.

Although Alexander Central took the loss, they still got scores from Jacob Hubbard, Jaheim Redmond, and Sawyer Chapman-Mays.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover will take on Polk County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 881 yards in their previous games. As for Alexander Central, they will challenge Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
