Softball Recap: Illiana Christian Has No Trouble Against Whiting

Illiana Christian never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Whiting on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Oilers. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five matches by 13 runs or more so far this season.

Cayden Petersen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Petersen was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted over her last nine contests.

In other batting news, Illiana Christian got a massive performance out of Emmy Jansma, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Jansma a new career-high. Sofia Dunnet was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Illiana Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whiting only posted an OBP of .222.

Illiana Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Whiting, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.

Illiana Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Oilers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
