Basketball Recap: Flagler Falls Short of Mcclave in the Playoffs

Flagler and McClave squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Flagler had to settle for second. They were dealt a 61-23 loss at the hands of the McClave Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Cardinals are ranked 26th).

Flagler lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lexi Witt, who posted seven points. She has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rylie Berry, who put up seven points.

It was another big night for Abrielle Gomez, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 24 points along with three steals and three blocks for McClave. That's the most blocks Gomez has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Melgoza, who earned eight points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Flagler's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for McClave, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-2.

Flagler does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McClave, they will face off against Hi-Plains on Thursday. McClave is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60 points per game this season.
