Basketball Game Preview: Rochester School for the Deaf Wildcats vs. Non Varsity Tournament Opponent

The Rochester School for the Deaf Wildcats will take on Non Varsity Tournament Opponent on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Rochester School for the Deaf is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Non Varsity Opponent just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Non Varsity Opponent.

Despite the defeat, Rochester School for the Deaf had strong showings from Evangeline Fisher-Palmer, who posted ten points and seven assists, and Ashley Stuhlberg, who had 11 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. That's the most assists Fisher-Palmer has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalena Sickler, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Rochester School for the Deaf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Non Varsity Tournament Opponent was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 29-28 to Clovis Christian.

Rochester School for the Deaf's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3. As for Non Varsity Tournament Opponent, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 18 of their last 19 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 27-105 record this season.

Rochester School for the Deaf came up short against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 25-21. Can Rochester School for the Deaf avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
