Mount Vernon win going away against Commerce

Recap: Mount Vernon Tigers vs. Commerce Tigers

The Mount Vernon Tigers fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They were the clear victor by a 38-13 margin over Commerce. The result was nothing new for Mount Vernon, who have now won three contests by 25 points or more so far this season.

Mount Vernon found their leader in underclassman Kord Johnson, who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Mehki Perry, who picked up 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Commerce saw an underclassman step up: Treyvion Carter rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.

Even if they lost, Commerce's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Sam Underwood and Drelon Crosby who racked up four sacks between them.

Mount Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Commerce, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.

Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Pottsboro the next time they take the field. Commerce will host Pottsboro at 0:00 a.m. on Friday, while Mount Vernon will head out to face them at 0:00 a.m. on November 3rd.
