Baseball Recap: Discovery Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Discovery won against Haines City on Thursday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Spartans walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Celebration Storm. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three games in a row.

Jose Quintero made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Quintero was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ayden Wheelis and Zion Philpot did most of the damage at the plate: Wheelis went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Philpot went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That double was Wheelis' first of the season. Evan DeVore was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Discovery kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Discovery's record is now 6-1. As for Celebration, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Discovery will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Lake Placid at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Celebration, they will welcome Ridge Community at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
