Basketball Recap: North Buncombe Comes Up Short

North Buncombe lost against Erwin back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The North Buncombe Black Hawks lost to the Erwin Warriors on the road by a 53-39 margin.

Despite the defeat, North Buncombe saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubrey Gilliland went 8-for-13 to rack up 19 points and five steals. Gilliland has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Stowe, who went 7-for-17 en route to 16 points and five boards.

Syria Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Erwin, dropping a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Areana Cartledge-Smith, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

North Buncombe's loss dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Erwin, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6.

North Buncombe has already played their next matchup, a 56-50 defeat against Asheville on the 17th. As for Erwin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-38 loss against Enka on the 17th.
