Baseball Recap: Midd-West Mustangs vs. Selinsgrove Seals
Midd-West had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it six. They lost 12-1 to the Selinsgrove Seals. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 14-3 to the Seals when the teams met back in April of 2018, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Midd-West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Shupp, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Selinsgrove, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
On Selinsgrove's side, Riley Romig was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Romig has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Griffin Parker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Neidig, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midd-West will challenge Jersey Shore at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Selinsgrove, they will take on Milton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
