Gallup took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Shiprock, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bengals had just enough and edged out the Chieftains 3-2 on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bengals as it spelled an end to their four-match losing streak.

Gallup's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-9. As for Shiprock, they dropped their record down to 8-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gallup will face off against rival Aztec at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Shiprock is set to square off against their familiar foe Miyamura at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
