Basketball Recap: North Gaston Comes Up Short

North Gaston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost 80-59 to the Forestview Jaguars. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, North Gaston still got an impressive performance from Markell Carothers, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 25 points and six rebounds. The match was Carothers' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Hill, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Forestview was led to victory by Daijhon Young and Alex Helton. Young went 12 for 14 en route to 24 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds, while Helton went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points. With that strong performance, Young is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Quinton Rybczyk, who posted nine points and eight assists.

North Gaston's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Forestview, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

North Gaston and Forestview could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. North Gaston will square off against Kings Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 322 places (478 vs. 156). North Gaston has given up an average of 58.1 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Similarly, Forestview (ranked 310th) will meet Ashbrook (ranked 40th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
