Softball Recap: Sarasota Takes a Loss

Sarasota lost a heartbreaker to Palmetto when they met back in March of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. The Sarasota Sailors fell just short of the Palmetto Tigers by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Sailors couldn't push the score so high this time.

Gemma Mulhollen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Sommer Speers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Having lost for the first time this season, Sarasota fell to 2-1. As for Palmetto, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sarasota will face off against Inspiration Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Inspiration Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Palmetto, they will square off against Lakewood Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on March 6th.
