Nevada Union (Grass Valley, Calif.) beat Woodcreek (Roseville, Calif.) 45-7 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Braaten Sill in the first quarter, the Miners led 31-7 at the half.
Nevada Union expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. NU's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by
Kyle Cota.
Stephen Nogosek played well for the Timberwolves. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Woodcreek's lone touchdown came on a 1-yard pass from Nogosek to Jason Moore in the second quarter.
The Grass Valley school came in allowing an average of 25.7 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding WHS well below its season average of 31.0 points scored per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Nevada Union came away with a 37-0 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for NU, which was coming off a 35-9 defeat at the hands of Rocklin in its previous game.
In a Sierra Foothill game next week Nevada Union (4-3) takes on Roseville, and Woodcreek (2-5) will go up against Rocklin also in a Sierra Foothill game.
