Baseball Game Preview: High Point Christian Academy Cougars vs. Covenant Day Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as High Point Christian Academy Cougars take on Covenant Day Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. High Point Christian Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Covenant Day's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

High Point Christian Academy gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Wake Christian Academy as High Point Christian Academy made off with a 10-1 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

HEATH CRAVER tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

Meanwhile, Covenant Day didn't have quite enough to beat Grace Christian on Friday and fell 2-1. The loss was the Lions' first of the season.

Covenant Day also got a good showing from Issac Snapp, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Snapp has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Covenant Day saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brode Dixon, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Covenant Day fell to 2-1. As for High Point Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. High Point Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Covenant Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

High Point Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Covenant Day in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can High Point Christian Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
