Baseball Game Preview: Cony Rams vs. Lincoln Academy Eagles

Cony has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lincoln Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cony has three straight wins, Lincoln Academy has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Cony barely beat Oceanside the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams blew past the Mariners 13-4 on Wednesday. Cony's victory was all the more impressive since the Mariners were averaging only four runs allowed on the season.

Cony let Matt Boston and Trent Hayward run wild. Boston went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Hayward went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that Boston has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt McKenney, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Lincoln Academy's offense. They came up short against Medomak Valley on Wednesday, falling 8-0.

Cony's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything went Cony's way against Lincoln Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Cony made off with an 8-1 win. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
