Football Preview: Agoura Chargers vs. Calabasas Coyotes
The Agoura Chargers will challenge the Calabasas Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Agoura ended up a good deal behind Thousand Oaks and lost 37-20. The Chargers have struggled against the Lancers recently, as their matchup on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brady Dieffenbach, who picked up 145 receiving yards and a touchdown. He torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 70 yards. Gavin Gray also helped out by tossing the rock for 332 yards.
Agoura's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Luke Bussiere and Connor Luebke. Another thorn in Thousand Oaks' side was Garrett Andrews, who made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Calabasas put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Kennedy 49-21 at home. The Coyotes pushed the score to 42-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cougars had little chance of recovering from.
Dominik Hardy and Kayne Miller were among the main playmakers for Calabasas as the former threw for 216 yards and five touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes and the latter rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards.
Having lost for the first time this season, Agoura fell to 2-1. As for Calabasas, their record now sits at 3-0.
Agoura barely slipped by Calabasas when the teams last played back in September of 2023, winning 54-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Calabasas' Alonzo Contreras, who threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76% of his passes, and also rushed for 39 yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Agoura to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
