Basketball Recap: Wellington Comes Up Short

Wellington suffered their biggest defeat since January 8th on Monday. They took a blow against the Keystone Wildcats, falling 59-27. The Dukes have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Wellington still got an impressive performance from Brooke Lehmkuhl, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. The contest was Lehmkuhl's third in a row with at least 17 points.

Keystone was led to victory by Vivian Cassell and Madyson Sokolowski. Cassell shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Sokolowski went 7 for 16 en route to 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Cassell is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last six games she's played. Brooklyn Barber was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Keystone, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their 25th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellington will challenge Aquinas at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Aquinas has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Keystone, they will face off against Beaumont School at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Maria Goske and Sokolowski.
