Softball Recap: Lakin Takes a Loss

Lakin lost against Hugoton back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Broncs fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Broncs have suffered since March 31st.

Moriah Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taybree Lohman-Fuller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Emma Beltran also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Lakin has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Hugoton, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7.

While Lakin had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
