Softball Recap: Fonda-Fultonville Has No Trouble Against Duanesburg

After losing to Duanesburg the last time they met, Fonda-Fultonville decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Valley Hawks put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-4 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Valley Hawks, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Grace Furnare made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Furnare was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylre Watterson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sigourney Myles, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Fonda-Fultonville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Fonda-Fultonville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Duanesburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Fonda-Fultonville will square off against Canajoharie at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Valley Hawks are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Duanesburg, they will face off against Johnstown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
