Softball Game Preview: Santee Falcons vs. Lincoln Tigers

Santee hasn't had much luck against Lincoln recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Santee Falcons will square off against the Lincoln Tigers at 4:00 p.m.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Santee and Rancho Dominguez meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. Santee fell 10-7 to Rancho Dominguez.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln). They never let Contreras get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Melanie Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ash De La NUEZ was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gladys Barajas, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Lincoln now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Santee, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Santee might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Lincoln in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Santee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
