Basketball Recap: Valley Vista Monsoon vs. Shadow Ridge Stallions

The Valley Vista Monsoon fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They secured a 48-44 W over Shadow Ridge on Thursday. For Valley Vista, this counts as revenge for the 60-55 defeat the Stallions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trevor Currington, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists. It was the first time this season that Currington pulled down eight or more rebounds. Nate Cosio was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.

Valley Vista's win bumped their record up to 8-15. As for Shadow Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Vista won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Maricopa is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Shadow Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Champions at 7:00 p.m. Cesar Chavez knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 matchups -- so hopefully the Stallions like a good challenge.
