Game recap: Central misses two-point conversion and loses to Clovis high school football team

Two missed two-point conversions cost Central (Fresno, Calif.) as it fell 15-12 to Clovis (Calif.).

The Grizzlies pulled ahead on a touchdown run by Eric Jimenez, and subsequently went into halftime leading 12-7. The Cougars took the lead for good with a Adrian Salas touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring zero points in the third, Clovis still trailed by 5 points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped the Cougars pull out the victory.

Clovis didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Salas ran for a touchdown.



Central's Jimenez played well. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown.

The Cougars' standout player in the win was Salas. The senior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.

Clovis went into the matchup giving up only 11.5 points per game.

The Cougars also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 26-0.

The defeat comes as a step back for Central, which notched a 50-22 victory over Buchanan in its previous outing.

Central (6-1) will play a Tri-River game against Clovis North next week, while Clovis (6-1) will take on Buchanan also in a Tri-River game.
