Basketball Recap: Hernando Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Hernando Tigers opened the new year with a less-than-successful 62-52 loss to the Choctaw Central Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Warriors are ranked second).

When it comes to explaining why Hernando lost, don't look at Fran Kelly. Despite the final result, she went 12 for 19 on her way to 33 points and three steals. Kelly's morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. C Pitts was another key player, putting up eight points.

Hernando's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Choctaw Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hernando will welcome Horn Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Choctaw Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Lauderdale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
