Softball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Griffith

Griffith never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on the River Forest Ingots with a sharp 14-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Brylie Bridges made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Bridges was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Natalie Vianello was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laney Poppa, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Griffith always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River Forest only posted an OBP of .188.

Griffith pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 13.4 runs thus far. As for River Forest, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Looking ahead, Griffith will hit the road for the first time this season to take on Wheeler at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for River Forest, they will be playing at home against Whiting at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ingots will need to watch out since the Oilers have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
