Baseball Recap: Hebron Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Hebron ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Hammond Central Wolves. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won six in a row.

Zac Peeler made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Carter Riley was excellent, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hebron's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Cole Trosien also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Hebron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hebron's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Hammond Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Hebron will challenge Kouts at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Mustangs & Fillies have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games. As for Hammond Central, they will take on Hammond Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
