Volleyball Recap: Joe Penano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Steele over Springfield

Steele was the 2-0 winner over Springfield when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Steele came up short against Springfield on Friday, falling 3-0.

While Steele ultimately came up short, they really made Springfield work, particularly in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 26-24, 25-19.

Steele's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joe Penano, who had six digs and three aces. Those three aces gave Penano a new career-high. Gavin Beckler also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Jonah Sheppard was nothing short of spectacular for Springfield: he had 20 digs and two aces.

Steele now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Springfield, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Steele didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Northview on the 22nd. As for Springfield, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Start on the 25th.
