Baseball Recap: Desert Vista Has No Trouble Against Casteel

Desert Vista had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Casteel on Friday. Desert Vista was the clear victor by a 13-4 margin over Casteel. The Thunder might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Brock MacDonald tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Anthony Renda and Easton Foster did most of the damage at the plate: Renda went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Foster went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Foster a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Skinner, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Desert Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casteel only posted a batting average of .154.

Desert Vista has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. Casteel's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Vista will host Brophy College Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Desert Vista 3.3, Brophy College Prep 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Casteel, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Basha at 3:45 p.m.
