Preview: Centerville Tigers vs. Leon Cougars

Centerville is 8-2 against Leon since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Centerville Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Leon Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Centerville has five straight victories, Leon has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, Centerville earned a 57-48 win over Lovelady.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centerville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Wade Neyland, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Neyland has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 18 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Newman, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.

Leon suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 70-46 loss at the hands of Grapeland. While losing is never fun, Leon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1544th, while Grapeland is ranked 578th).

Centerville pushed their record up to 17-5 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Leon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Centerville against Leon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 69-21 victory. Will Centerville repeat their success, or does Leon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
