Athens waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Vinton County Vikings by a score of 7-4. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Athens' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Vinton County, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athens will host Meigs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 12.8 runs per game this season. As for Vinton County, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Jackson at 11:00 a.m.
