Game recap: Jefferson High School Football Team defeats Calhoun

CALHOUN, Ga. - Calhoun (Ga.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 9 in Georgia, but was stunned by Jefferson (Ga.), 31-14. Jefferson was ranked at No. 20 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Georgia coming into the week.

The Dragons were up 21-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by Bryant Shirreffs in the second quarter.

Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 14.



The loss snapped the Yellowjackets' 16-game winning streak.

Jefferson's standout player in the win was Shirreffs. The senior quarterback ran for three touchdowns.

Calhoun's Taylor Lamb played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.

JHS came into the game allowing 15.8 points per game. CHS came in surrendering 13.6 points per game this season. The Yellowjackets struggled against the Dragons, which came in averaging 22.3 points per game.

The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Calhoun took, 39-6.

The loss comes after Calhoun defeated Lamar County 21-14 last week.
