Baseball Game Preview: Marian Catholic Spartans vs. Sandburg Eagles

The Marian Catholic Spartans will head out to face off against the Sandburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Marian Catholic was handed a seven-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Homewood-Flossmoor 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jonathan Trotter was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Marian Catholic: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-14 otherwise. Jazarris Mackmore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Marian Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Sandburg narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Oak Forest 2-1.

Sandburg's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-8. As for Marian Catholic, their record now sits at 10-14.

Marian Catholic couldn't quite finish off Sandburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
