Baseball Recap: De Soto Takes a Loss

De Soto is still winless after their match against Seneca on Thursday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Indians. On the bright side, the five- run effort marked the Pirates' highest-scoring game to date.

Finn Wrobel was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Harris Krueger and Wills Davis stepped up to the plate in a big way. Krueger went 3-for-4 with one run and one double, while Davis went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was Krueger's first of the season.

De Soto's record now sits at 0-6. As for Seneca, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Looking ahead, De Soto will head out to challenge Weston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seneca, they will be playing at home against Viroqua at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
