Recap: Winnebago Indians vs. Wakefield Trojans
It was a good run, but the Winnebago Indians unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 50-40 to Wakefield. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Winnebago of the 63-58 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Winnebago saw an underclassman step up: Ashton Lapointe scored 17 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Lapointe scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Timothy Lapointe, who scored nine points.
Wakefield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anthony Valenzuela, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Borg, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Winnebago's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Wakefield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12.
Winnebago will be playing at home against Santee on Thursday. Winnebago is facing Santee at the right time seeing as Santee is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Wakefield, they will head out on the road to square off against Lyons-Decatur Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
