Softball Recap: Brevard Comes Up Short

Brevard started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Tuscola. They fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mountaineers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2018.

Naila Saltzman was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Saltzman was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Leah Cabe made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Scarlett Conley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Brevard and nudges their season record down to 6-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Tuscola, their record is now 10-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Brevard beat the Mountaineers by a score of 17-9 on Friday.
