Recap: Rocky Ford Meloneers vs. Rye Thunderbolts
The Rocky Ford Meloneers's game last Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 44-26 win over Rye. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Rocky Ford also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Leticia Garcia was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 25 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Raelynne Geist, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Rye saw an underclassman step up: Campbell Maloof scored five points along with three steals.
Rocky Ford's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Rye, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky Ford will square off against Las Animas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Las Animas will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Rye, they will head out on the road to challenge Florence at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Florence is ranked 315th, while Rye is ranked 306th).
