Softball Recap: Oakwood Finds Home Field Redemption Against North Vermillion

There's no place like home for Oakwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against the North Vermillion Falcons by a score of 8-3 on Tuesday. The Comets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Irene Rangel made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Hanner, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Bella Bradford was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Oakwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for North Vermillion, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakwood will venture away from home to square off against Chrisman at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Comets are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for North Vermillion, they will head out to take on Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
