Softball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Miners vs. Pahrump Valley Trojans

Sunrise Mountain is 0-10 against Pahrump Valley since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Miners will take on the Trojans at 3:30 p.m. Sunrise Mountain has given up an average of 17.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sunrise Mountain is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They lost 21-1 to Sports Leadership & Management.

Meanwhile, Pahrump Valley made easy work of The Meadows School on Wednesday and carried off a 21-4 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by eight runs or more this season.

Evalenne Armendariz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Armendariz was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Riley Saldana was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. Sunday Colon was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Pahrump Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are 14-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Pahrump Valley is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.9 runs over those games. As for Sunrise Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Sunrise Mountain might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Pahrump Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
