Basketball Recap: Deray Mathis Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Arete Prep

Miami hadn't done well against Arete Prep recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Miami Vandals strolled past the Arete Prep CHARGERS with points to spare, taking the game 63-45. For the Vandals, this counts as revenge for the 70-56 victory the CHARGERS walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Miami got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Deray Mathis out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Mathis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 23 times he's played. Another player making a difference was John McGoughey, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Miami's victory bumped their record up to 17-13. As for Arete Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 13-13.
