Rosemead is a perfect 7-0 against South El Monte since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The home team had come away the winner the last four times Rosemead and El Monte had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Lions on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Rosemead took every set by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-15, 25-4.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. South El Monte fell just short of Gabrielino by a score of 3-2. South El Monte's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
South El Monte started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 15-8.
Rosemead will have to keep a close watch on Bradley Pretzantzin and Johnson Phan, a pair of players who had a big impact on South El Monte's prior game. Pretzantzin had 22 digs and five aces, while Phan had nine digs and two aces. Pretzantzin has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times he's played.
Rosemead's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for South El Monte, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Everything went Rosemead's way against South El Monte in their previous matchup back in March, as Rosemead made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
